Tonight feels especially sweet.
I finished all of the major cleaning today, and I’m sitting here feeling that deep, satisfying sense of accomplishment that only comes after hard work is done. The house is clean, cozy, and cheerful. Everything smells good, the lights are glowing, and my shoulders finally feel relaxed.
Right now, the three of us are curled up on the sofa with Christmas cookies while Elf plays in the background. It’s not on my personal list of favorite Christmas movies, but Jack has never seen it and really wanted to watch it tonight. That makes it worth it. There’s something so special about sharing these little moments, especially when the house is quiet and calm after a full day.
Don’t you love that feeling? When you’ve worked hard, the house is in order, and you finally get to sit down and enjoy it with your family?
Tomorrow is just about the finishing touches. A little fabric spray on the furniture, do a quick vacuum, change out the wax melts, and sweep and mop the kitchen. Once Jack goes to bed, I’ll finish it all up before St. Nick makes his visit.
Scott and I have a little tradition we’ve grown to love. After everything is done and set out for Christmas morning, we turn down the lights and watch The Snowman. We’ll share a couple of Christmas cookies and some eggnog and just sit together in the quiet.
That, to me, is real Christmas magic.
These are the moments I want to hold onto. When the work is done, the house is quiet, and Christmas feels close enough to touch.
With love,
Abby
