A Peaceful Afternoon at Home

A peaceful afternoon at home, school lessons, a sleeping cat, a Zoom therapy session, and a simple smoked chicken dinner coming together slowly.

We’re fully back into the swing of things, and it feels good.
Jack has settled back into his school rhythm and is working hard at his lessons. Our cat, Little Man, is curled up nearby, sleeping peacefully as he always does during school time. There’s something comforting about that familiar presence, our days moving forward quietly, one lesson at a time.
This afternoon, Jack is also attending his speech therapy group session on Zoom, and while he works, the house hums along in the background. Scott and I are spending the afternoon together in the kitchen, prepping dinner and learning our way around our new grill.
Tonight’s plan is a smoked spatchcock chicken, seasoned simply with onion, garlic, and seasoned salt. I’m hoping the smoky flavor really shines through. We’ll serve it with a big green salad, nothing fancy, just nourishing and satisfying.
What I love most about moments like this is how peaceful they feel. Scott and I are learning something new together, working toward a shared goal, and enjoying the process instead of rushing through it. Jack is busy and focused, the house feels calm, and dinner is slowly coming together.
It’s nothing extraordinary but it’s everything I want our days to be.
With love,
Abby
