A Quiet Day at Home

A quiet day of housework, light homeschooling, comfort food, and an evening spent together at the lodge, a reminder that ordinary days are often the best ones.

Today was one of those quiet, productive days that doesn’t look like much from the outside, but adds up in all the right ways.

I spent some time getting the house ready to host my in-laws for Christmas dinner. Nothing fancy,  just the kind of work that makes a home feel calmer. I fixed the living room blinds I accidentally broke while decorating (oops), did a bit of decluttering, and tackled some deeper cleaning in the kitchen. It felt good to make small progress without rushing.

Jack worked on a Christmas craft today, and we kept school light. We read together and talked about sequencing, but mostly we’re leaning into an easier rhythm this week. With Christmas so close, it feels right to slow things down and focus on enjoying these days rather than pushing through a full schedule.

Scott wasn’t feeling well, so we changed dinner plans last minute and went with something comforting instead. I made breakfast burritos with hash brown fingers on the side … cozy, simple, and just what he needed. It really pays off to have an easy comfort meal you can fall back on when plans shift.

This evening we came along with Scott to his Freemason lodge while he leads a meeting. We try to go with him whenever we can. It gives us extra time together, and Jack loves being there. He’s completely taken with the culture of the lodge and already talks about becoming a Freemason someday. For me, it’s a chance to sit quietly, pick up a book, and read while the meeting carries on.

Nothing extraordinary, just a good, gentle day.

With love,
Abby
